Abstract
Virtual Reality is emerging field. It uses computer techniques to create a 3D virtual environment. It provides realistic sense-data, including vision, hearing and even tactile senses. It enables people to experience movement inside a virtual environment. However, displaying the realistic scenes and models in a virtual environment typically depends on numerous triangles. Surface reconstruction methods are used to generate triangles in a point-cloud model. Unfortunately, the storage costs and computational costs of 3D models increase with the number of triangles in the 3D models. Therefore, reducing the number of triangles while maintaining the contour of the models has recently become a major issue. Therefore, some surface simplification methods are proposed to reduce the number of triangles in 3D models. In this talk, participants will learn the basic techniques of surface reconstruction and surface simplification for modeling a 3D object.
